Hello and Welcome to Girl Scout Troop 42570;
Over the years members of our Portland Aspergers Network (PAN) Game Club, Teen Club+ and on our e-group, have asked, "Can we find more for girls to do?" To that end, PAN is started a Girl Scout troop for girls on Spectrum. It is open to PAN girls, their sisters, cousins, friends and any other girls from Kindergarten through grade 12 or age 5 through age 21 (if she's on an IEP).
A multi-age Girl Scout troop is a program for girls and parents, who are interested in being in Girl Scouting and are looking for a program in a safe and sensitive environment with volunteers who "get it." Girl may join at any program level as each level is not dependant on participation in, and is independent, of the previous program level. There are many Girl Scout programs girls can attend individually in addition to troop activities.
Our multi-age Girl Scout Troop will meet once a month at Game Club and a second time during the month for an activity related to the girls interests. Girls will work on activities at age appropriate levels. We meet during Game Club downstairs across from the "movie theater" from 6:45 to 8:00 PM. The girls can then participate in Game Club activities. During July, August and December, we will meet once during those months.
Important! The National Girl Scout program requires a minimum of two adults present per 6 girls at all program meetings or activities; even if there is only one girl. In addition to the girl registration I am asking at least one parent or guardian per family to register and pay their registration fee ($12). This provides insurance coverage during these meetings and outings. I am also asking parents to take the additional step of filling out the free background check, so we will always have enough available adults to do activities. There is no charge for the background check. Girl Scouts has many options available for adult supervision of meetings and activities. Financial assistance is available if the $12 is a challenge. Uniforms are optional, not required. Our Girl Scout Council will help provide a book and awards vest or sash.
